Abstract

This paper explores the unique synthesis of traditional Chinese ink techniques and Western modern art influences in the modern ink artworks of the Nanyang pioneer artists by examining the visual analysis of artistic hybridity approaches and the local environmental awareness through their modern ink painting exploration. This study applies the interdisciplinary approach of Homi K. Bhabha’s notion of hybridity and the Third Space that integrates detailed visual analysis and contextual analysis within the framework of New Art History and Cultural Studies, which provides a critical discussion of artistic innovation through cultural integration. The findings highlight the innovative contributions of Nanyang pioneer artists to modern ink painting, offering new insights into their role in shaping ink art worldwide. This paper contributes to the broader discourse on cultural exchange, artistic innovation, localization themes, and the global art impact of Southeast Asian art.
