Abstract

Transportation is central to Malaysia's economic growth, yet rapid urbanisation has increased private vehicle dependence, causing congestion and environmental concerns. To address this, the National Transport Policy 2019–2030 targets 40% public transport usage, with the Automated Rapid Transit (ART) system proposed as a low-emission, flexible solution. This study assesses the feasibility of ART in Iskandar, Johor, focusing on traffic conflicts, manoeuvrability, visibility, and driver behaviour. Results indicate strong manoeuvrability, particularly at complex junctions, and generally positive safety perceptions. However, traffic conflicts and adaptability varied by road conditions and driver experience, highlighting the need for further system, infrastructure, and regulatory refinement.
