IMPACT OF HIP-HOP MUSIC IN ENHANCING COMMUNICATION AMONG YOUNG ADULTS
Abstract
Background: Hip-Hop music has gained global popularity, with expressive emotions, good beats and lyrics full of vocabulary. Moreover, communication skills are important to have, and enhanced, especially among young adults. In modern society, having knowledge of how to be able to communicate is well-known to be a critical skill for academic success, professional development, and social interaction. Significance: This research is significant because it explores an area that has often been overlooked in communication research the impact of hip-hop music on enhancing oral communication skills among young adults. While formal education tends to focus on structured communication training, young adults often learn how to speak, negotiate meaning, and articulate emotions within informal cultural spaces. Aim: The study aims to investigate whether gender influences the strength or direction of this relationship between Hip-Hop lyrics and communication skills. Objectives: The objective of this research is to verify the “Impact of Hip-hop music in enhancing communication among young adults, by examine the role of Hip-hop music lyrics, to analyze the impact of Hip-hop music lyrics and to determine the mediating influence towards both genders. Methods: The methodology for this research will be performed using pilot testing using quantitative approach by using a cross-sectional survey design to analyze the relations between the role of hip-hop music lyrics, their impact, and oral communication skills among young adults in non-urban educational institutions in Malaysia. The data will be collected using a structure questionnaire which will be administered to a sample of students between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, whereas the sample size will be between 200-350 respondents. The instrument will measure the key variables using a Likert scale, while the genders are being examined as a mediating variable. Once the data has been collected, the data analysis will be conducted using IBM SPSS, including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and mediation testing. Limitations: The limitations of the study are that not all might agree with Hip-Hop music may not be a reliable tool to help young adults with enhancing their communications skills. Findings: As for the findings, they are expected to provide evidence-based information by engaging in Hip-hop lyrics of how it may enhance aspects of oral communication such as confidence, expression, and enunciation with fluency. Implications: The results may offer practical implications for educators, communication coaches, and policy makers who are seeking innovative approaches to improve communication skills among young adults.
