Abstract

Poor sleep quality is highly prevalent among shift-working nurses, which can impair their health, work performance, and patient care. This cross-sectional study evaluated sleep quality among 544 nurses in a Malaysian public hospital using the validated Malay version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-M). Results showed that 68.9% of nurses reported poor sleep quality. Significant differences emerged in terms of age, work experience, health status, and shift satisfaction. These findings underscore the urgent need for organisational interventions, such as shift rescheduling and sleep health programs, to improve nurses' well-being and care quality.
