Abstract

This research explores Pendatang (2023), a bold Malaysian film that confronts sensitive issues within a multicultural society. The study seeks to identify social criticisms of racism and to analyze representations of ethnic segregation in the movie. Employing a qualitative approach, the research involves detailed observation and analysis of secondary data. Guided by the theory of social criticism, this study examines how visual and textual elements are used to challenge societal norms, provoke reflection, and expose the complexities of identity, power, and belonging in contemporary Malaysia.
