Abstract

This study examines how family financial socialisation influences travel norms and mobility aspirations among Malaysian young adults through the lens of Prospect Theory. Using quantitative methods, 393 respondents’ data were analysed through Structural Equation Modelling. Findings indicate moderate financial socialisation, literacy, and behaviour, alongside high mobility aspirations. Financial socialisation significantly predicts financial literacy, which influences financial behaviour and subsequently mobility aspirations. Financial behaviour partially mediates this relationship. Consistent with Prospect Theory, financially capable individuals are more likely to perceive travel as a gain. The study highlights the importance of early financial socialisation in fostering responsible and sustainable travel decision-making
