Abstract

The study explores how taʿāwun (mutual cooperation) enhances social capital and resilience among SMEs in Malaysia. This study uses qualitative interviews with ten SMEs across the services and manufacturing sectors. The findings show that taʿāwun reduces adversarial competition, fosters trust, generates bonding, and bridging ties essential for resilience. In fact, taʿāwun-based social capital provides both ethical and strategic advantages, enabling SMEs to withstand shocks while sustaining stakeholder trust. This values-driven perspective contributes to Islamic management, highlighting the taʿāwun advantage as a spiritual and practical tool for resilience.
